Demisting requirements in carbon capture projects

Industry News | Date of writing: October 12, 2026
Letting droplets return in an orderly manner safeguards stable process operation
On July 28, 2026, SLB announced that its Capturi technology had been selected as the preferred carbon capture technology solution for Uniper’s proposed low-carbon power generation project at Connah’s Quay in the UK. The project design includes demisting and energy-saving systems, and permitting and investment decisions still need to be advanced. This public development provides a specific entry point for observing the role of gas-liquid separation equipment in new applications.
In the amine-based absorption process, capturing carbon dioxide and controlling outlet entrainment are issues that need to be considered simultaneously. When the gas stream carries droplets out of the equipment, it may lead to liquid loss and also increase the burden on downstream treatment. Therefore, the evaluation of the demisting unit should be based on actual indicators such as outlet entrainment, pressure drop, and variable-load operation, and should not be limited to comparing the appearance or weight of the mesh pad.
For wire mesh demister suppliers, what is worth paying attention to in such projects is the boundary of operating conditions. After receiving carbon capture-related inquiries, one should first understand the droplet size, medium properties, gas-liquid load, and emission targets, and then determine whether an ordinary mesh pad, composite mesh material, or other demisting technology is applicable. Explaining the basis for selection clearly is more helpful for advancing technical communication than applying a generic efficiency figure.
The project did not disclose the mesh material and configuration of the demisting system, and public information cannot be used to prove that it adopted an annular segmented wire mesh demister. Product promotion can use this to discuss the role of demisting in the process, but supply relationships and application track records should be based on real project records.
